My experience through the Typhoon
There are so many things that still make me awe even today, and this time it was being inside the eye of a category 3 typhoon (hurricane). That's exactly what I've experienced a week ago.It begins about a day or two before the storm when you're told that there's a typhoon coming your way. It's expected to have winds of up to 150kmph and the only thing on your mind, at least mine is how long after the storm will I be able to update the site. I know, I'm strange like that... So the day comes and it begins to drizzle, and soon after that drizzle it's pouring. The lights flicker and the power shuts off three times within 2-hours as a warning that the power will be cut for safety. The wind increases and a few hours later the storm arrives. The wind picks up gradually and after an hour of rapidly increased winds you realize that the wind has picked up at its hardest. Often blowing at 150kmph, branches fall, trees topple over, clay pots shatter, and unknown things at a distance break, and blow up. Being that there are no windows but rather wooden shades, you can feel the wind and rain inside the house and suddenly there's a flood of water inside as the gutters clog.It takes about 2 1/2 hrs before the wind dies down and you can finally hear the announcer on the radio. But, you would think that there would be news about the typhoon on the radio, but instead it's just advertisements. The wind picks up again and it's time for round 2. Typhoons/hurricanes go through phases and this was the second phase. But we we're all getting very tired as it was late at night so we went to bed and slept through the remainder of the typhoon. We woke up early in the morning, as early as the sun rose that day and took a look outside to see the damage. What was seen was unexpected, an insane amount of damage everywhere we could see. Absolutely all the trees had fallen down, not a single flower pot was left undestroyed (the typhoon should have been named Link), the metal electric post connecting to our home was (and still is) broken in half and leaning over our gate, the koi ponds were still okay but many branches were in the ponds, and the fish were gasping for air. We look outside the gate to the street and what was once a street is now green, full of leafs, trees, and branches. We couldn't see very far since everyone in the neighborhood had many trees but now we can see their homes, neighbors from a block away and so on due to the lack of trees.Thankfully this time around there weren't any broken dykes which would have resulted in a major flood. But throughout this whole time I didn't feel fear at all, in fact I was enjoying every minute of it because these kind of scenarios is the kind of scenario that I simply adore and the worse the condition gets the more I love it. When I saw the yard full of fallen trees, and things broken I was thrilled as I had immediately thought out of instinct that this would be an exciting challenge to go out and clear it up, burn the trees like a campfire, fix up this and that and so on. I was thrilled with the prospect that we had no electricity despite wanting to work on Jappleng because I wanted to see how it would be like to live without electricity for at least two-weeks. Well, we have a generator now but for a good week we had nothing and that was a nice experience. No internet, no computer, no facebook, no nothing of the sort. Just me, my wife, and her family. You know, I was even exhilarated when there was that blockage that resulted into a small flood i the house until we fixed it because it was another challenge. But, would I be just as excited if this house was made of wood? Absolutely not. It's one thing to be excited over this and that but it's entirely different when your parents-in-law could lose their house. hahahaha #motherinlawjokeDespite the good and the bad, a lot was learned from this. This was my first typhoon and it was a pretty big one from what I hear. I learned that you can never have too little D-Cell batteries especially for airators for the koi ponds. Oh and the koi? None of them went missing or died.PS. I apologize for the poor editing, I have no time to edit this article.
