The man who helped brought back Video Games from the dead sadly faced an early death after battling with Cancer. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo has been facing difficulties with his
bile duct and undergone surgery in the past, and even skipped on going to
E3 last year.Satoru Iwata was Nintendo's figurehead, he worked on numerous games and was at the helm of HAL Laboratory working on Kirby, EarthBound, Balloon Fight, some Pokemon games, as well as Mario Kart, Star Fox, Metroid, Pikmin, Mario Party, Brain Age and what feels like a hundred more titles. To gamers, he was one of the legendary game developers, a rockstar in the industry and truly a brilliant mind who knew what made a game so great.Iwata will forever be remembered as a great man, a man of destiny, a man of integrity, and a man who redefined an industry. 55-years is a little over half of today's life expectancy, it was truly a premature death and cancer once again took a great person from us. I was born in 1985, the year which Nintendo came to life and in that life it felt that Iwata, Shigeru Miyamoto and Super Mario were family. To me, his death is very personal and I understand that to many it is the same, that is how powerful his heart is to gamers.
In honor of his life, death, and legacy, let us all spend this coming weekend gaming in his honor, let us press CONTINUE when we die, and let us drink to every level. He is a man of great excellence, he deserves more than a mere minute of silence,
he deserves a weekend of gaming.Long live the king of Nintendo!
