Phantasy Star Online 2 (shortened to PSO2) is a popular MMORPG in Asia, particularly in Japan where players are set in a futuristic time-setting solving mysteries and defeating foes all together. Last year in September, SEGA announced that they would delay the release of Phantasy Star Online 2 once again after many delays. To this day there are no signs of the game releasing in the US and no one is really talking about this. Perhaps SEGA of America is really embarrassed? One would wonder why such a great game isn't seeing the light of day in the US, but it has resorted people to play on overseas servers, manually patch language files into their own respective language such as English and Russian, and even through all of these efforts, people are more than happy to buy game currency via proxy with a slight premium on it. Yet, despite this cult following, SEGA continues to ignore its western audience.I'll admit, I really like PSO2. The last 2 MMORPGs I've played were Guild Wars 2 and SWTOR. Both games are great in their own way but PSO2 really hits it home for me. I enjoy playing on the Japanese server and if anyone's interested, English speakers are on Ship 02; but what does that mean about PSO2 when it does release? Will people abandon all their hard work for a copy that is years behind in updates? I will likely pay for in-game "stuff" in the coming months on the Japanese server but if anything I won't be switching over to the US server if it ever releases. The game was launched in 2012 (out of beta) in Japan, and it's been nothing but delays in the US.
If you live in:Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore,or Thailand you can play the game without dealing with any fan-based translations or worry about ever getting banned. However, I've had a SEGA JP account since PSO I & II and I still haven't gotten banned. This isn't a guarantee that you won't ever get banned but just be respectful, maybe donate a few bucks their way so they won't mind you using up their servers and enjoy the game.
(English patch does violate their ToS however)Don't want to wait? We've written a guide just for you!Click here to read our guide on how to install Phantasy Star Online 2 and patch it in English!
