After a decade, Sony has made the decision to pull the plug on the Playstation Portable (PSP)and focus strictly on the Playstation Vita. Sony stopped shipment in North America in January, later in the year for Europe and this month for Japan. The Playstation Portable managed to innovate handheld gaming by bringing Playstation 2 visuals on-the-go, however the drawback has been argued by many of the introduction of the PSP:GO which no longer supported discs but downloadable games instead, confusing many and also making the availability of games very limited. In the end, the Sony PSP will no longer be supported globally by the end of the year but instead they will focus their attention to the PS Vita. The PSP sold 80.79 million units world-wide according to VGChartz and nearly 20 million in Japan. In contrast, the PSP's direct competitor, the Nintendo DS sold 154.88 million units world-wide.
