In what may be a devastating blow to LucasArts fans worldwide, LucasArts received a memo that around 150 staff members were laid off. This is no belated April fools joke, Disney is shutting down the company and killing every game that is being worked on as they claim that it's in their best interest to have other companies work on project titles than themselves."After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games," LucasArts parent company LucasFilm said in a statement. "As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles."If you were looking forward to 1313 like many of us were, then you're out of luck as that project is officially cancelled and permanently so. One could hope that what was developed will leak to the public and we'll all get a chance to play the game for what it is.There you have it, Disney buys LucasArts, cans all of its employees and makes themselves look like EA in the process. There's certainly not many people happy about this move, especially since 1313 looked like such a good game. SWTOR should still be good as it's being maintained by Bioware / EA. I don't mean any disrespect to EA but a good friend of mine got laid-off after a buyout from EA. The only option he was given was to move to another state and work for a different company. It wasn't the only time that this had happened. Let's just hope that there are still some nice SW games pumped out in the future.Let's take a minute of silence to mourn the loss of our childhood friend.
