News Report: Japanese Variety Show PIP is Popularizing in the US?

I was watching the Bachelor today and saw a PIP of the celebrities at the bottom left of the screen like they do on Japanese variety shows. I don't know if this has become a popular thing but this was the first time I saw this on American television. For those of you who don't know, Variety Shows in Japan (mostly) have a Picture-in-Picture of the celebrities and their expressions. In this footage, you can clearly see what it's all about. The clip is entitled "Funny Japanese Prank: Human vs Crocodile".For reasons on why they do this, some have suggested that it's due to the difference in how Japanese people communicate compared to Americans. Japanese are said to communicate more with facial gestures and some say it may be their alternative to our laugh tracks. Others believe that it may just be a way to get the audience familiarized with the celebrities guest starring on the show. What do you Japplengers think about this? Are American shows going to see more of PIP reactions or will it be exclusive to Japan? I really enjoy seeing the PIP and I don't know why, but I do hope to see more of it here!
