BattleBots is a TV series where robots go head to head and duke it out into a full-on deathmatch and while it's not Japanese, it's certainly appealing to robot enthusiasts. A little on the history... Many years ago back in the year 1999 there was an underground battle arena called BattleBots which only streamed online in terrible video quality (most of us had dial-up). Later, it got picked up by Lenny Stucker, a TV producer but failed to get big networks to pick up the series as none of the big networks could see how people could be interested in two robots fighting to the death (and yet they opted for "reality shows"?).Eventually after many failed network pitch, Comedy Central picked it up and became extremely popular but after a few seasons it lost its edge as the battles were predictable and most agree it started to lack innovation. Now, it's summer of 2015 and Battle Bots has been picked up again, this time by ABC and the variety of robots are grand and the battle themselves aren't as predictable. A lot of work has been put into the arena and overall production of the show but just as well innovation has been placed into robots such as A.I. So far there are bots with drone bots with flame throwers, smart bots, super "lawnmower" bots, a dragon and more. The fights are interesting to watch as most are unpredictable at least in this season. Each battle is 1vs1 exhibition and robots are paired into a ladder tournament. The winner gets a cash prize and an awesome trophy.
You can watch BattleBots Sundays at 9PM EST on ABC.As a big fan of robot battles, I thought it would be awesome to share this show with you. Next year there will be a
Real Mech Battle so perhaps the time is finally here for us to enjoy robots fighting each other? Do you guys think that in a hundred years, robots will look back at this like we do with the Colosseum? Perhaps these battles will cause a robot revolution in the future!
