If I were to propose to you the idea of two mechs fighting a legitimate mech battle next year, what would you say to that? Lies? It won't happen? Impossibiru!! I'm here to tell you that it's not a lie and the duel is ON.MegaBots, an American battle mech company (surpised?) has challenged Suidobashi, creator of the famous Kuratas (shown below) to an all-out mech battle. Here's the video challenge and the acceptance speech.MegaBot's ChallengeSuidobashi's AcceptanceWith that said, IT'S ON! So what do we currently know about these two contenders?MegaBotsThe MegaBot is roughly 15ft tall and can travel upwards to 120miles per hour with its tracks. It is capable of handling pretty big guns/bazookas and seems extremely durable with its hard shell. The drawbacks to the MegaBot is that it does not yet seem to have a sophisticated AI, nor does it seem to contain an advanced tracking system which means much of the fighting would be done manual (presumably). The MegaBot's Mk II weighs in at 12,000lbs and is powered by gasoline.Suidobashi's KuratasThe first mech that made its way to market stunned the world because of its maneuverability, and sophisticated advanced cockpit that includes AI and tracking systems. While the Kurata does have the advantage of advanced tracking systems, it's a turtle, crawling at just above 6mph. The Kuratas is also slightly shorter at 13ft, and weighs in at an identical 12,000lbs.The BattleWhile the challenge was just accepted, there is still a year left to upgrade both mechs and it's unknown what the rules will be and where it will take place. However, it's presumed that it will take place in an arena backed by serious sponsors as this will be the very first Mech Battle in the world. History will be taking place and wishful thinking believes that it's going to be as big as Mayweather vs Pacquiao.Suidobashi stated that "building something huge and sticking guns on it is super American" in reference that the Mk II is not as technologically advanced as the Kuratas. He also stated that he needs "Melee combat", hinting that there's probably going to be some significant upgrades to the mech turning it from a toy to a battle bot. Here's a video by MegaBots explaining their vision on what they see for the future for a Battle Arena and Battle Mechs in general:We'll be keeping our eye out for more updates and let you guys know what happens next. We're extremely excited and hope that MegaBots succeeds in the next evolution of robot battle.Want to write Japanese-related news, earn points and redeem for prizes?
