Move over Astro boy, there's a new robot in town and his name is Kirobo (キロボ). Kirobo can walk, talk, and move around in zero-gravity, weighs less than a kilo and measures a whooping 39cm in height. Okay, maybe he's not that big of a Robot but a robot in space is key, isn't it?Well, Robonaut 2 was the first robot in space, but it's not autonomous just yet. The purpose of Robonaut was to have a second set of hands on space walks or to go out onto dangerous missions where a manned mission would be life-threatening.Astro boy Kirobo on the other hand is a little tiny robot, no bigger than your average NAO robot (a popular bipedal robot kit) will be communicating in Japanese to fellow flight members as well as his little twin on Earth whom will be monitoring Kirobo's functions. With that said, this robot is certainly more hype than practice, but it's always nice to see our robotic overlords plotting their takeovers from space. Here's a little video with the little guy in motion.Astronaut Kirobo will arrive on the ISS Friday, August 9th.
