In 1982, the Japanese government created a ban on pregnant women from swimming in hot springs as their research concluded that it was not a safe activity to do. However, now the government changed their opinion and believes that it may not cause any damage to the expecting mother or the baby.Lifting this ban does concerns many that genuinely believe that dipping in a hot spring is dangerous however it does give individuals more personal responsibility to make the decision themselves. The big question that many have raised from the coming of this news is that the government is seeking many ways to help the economy but they have programs that does not promote personal responsibility but rather take it away. However many health experts (according to a quick Google search) suggests that onsen temperatures are too hot for pregnant women. How do you all feel about this news? Do you believe that hot springs are dangerous or not for pregnant women? Is it the government’s job to create laws surrounding these issues or should tax dollars be used elsewhere or lowered?
