Anyone who's ever watched Japanese anime has seen the iconic school girl swimsuits which shows rather a lot of skin and crevices. While this uniform is not mandated in every school in Japan, it has been a concern for many girls and parents alike. In North America for example, schools generally will not mandate certain hair styles, hair colors, clothes, or even shoes but the Japanese school system is very disciplinary and most have strict mandates. For instance, many schools will have military-style haircuts for boys while girls must have long hair. Almost all schools mandate a dress code such as school uniforms. The school uniform is said to aide in discipline, put everyone on equal field
(to prevent financial discrimination), and to help differentiate students by school on the street for various reasons. In gym class, students tend to be required to wear certain uniforms and girls usually get the butt-end of the deal having to wear unusually revealing clothes. Take for example the gym swimsuit, it's very tight, it shows off a lot of skin, and not everyone wants to flaunt crevices and boobs. So what is the new revolution in style? Footmark, a Japanese clothing company redesigned the swimsuit and gave 4 options to choose from in a lineup called "ideal∞swimming" as seen below.
Ideal∞Swimming comes in both short and long variety, and gives a lot more room for comfort. While this may not be the solution to everyone's problem, it does resolve many which may lead to more girls being comfortable during swim class. Perhaps most schools will allow the adoption of this swimsuit brand, only time will tell. The "Ideal∞Swimming" brand runs somewhere between 5,940Yen - 7,020Yen
(approx $50 - $60 USD).
