So now you’re on Jappleng, what do you do or what can you do? To answer that question in full detail, it would probably require a full hour. But since we like things short and straight to the point, I can sparknotes it for ya. What I’ll do is have a quick pitch followed by different categories and what they do.
Quicky about What’s JapplengJappleng University is a pretty unique place. There’s really nothing out there quite like it, in fact it’s the only one of its kind so it’s a little hard to describe. In a way, you can say it’s a social-education platform because it has a ton of social network elements with education being the main focus. Of course, you don’t have to be interested in learning about Japan or the Japanese language to participate on Jappleng. There’s a ton of neat things to do.
News in JapanNews in Japan is a place where you and others can submit news about Japan, vote on each other’s news items and comment on them. Think of it like Reddit or Digg (when it existed).
Explore the CultureExplore the Culture is a place where you can learn more about Japan from the Travel aspects of it like good places to eat, what this and that is and Japanese history and customs. This section is currently managed my staff at Jappleng unlike the news section which is maintained by the community.
Learn JapaneseLearn Japanese is a section devoted to teaching Japanese to everyone who wants to learn. Presently all lessons are free in two courses (JPLearn! and Jappleng Mini-Lessons), and we are working alongside teachers to deliver new courses that can be used for redeemable credits or certifications. JPLearn! is unique in its own, it’s a full-fledge course system with assignments, grades and very detailed lessons. We’re proud to say that we’re probably the best at teaching the language for what’s currently available.
Community (Forums)The community forums are a great place to getting to know others around Jappleng and create long-lasting threads. It serves a different purpose than a social network and as usual, our forums are full of fun surprises!
J-Spot! Social NetworkThis is our very own social network, it was designed from the ground-up to tailor specifically for our community. We know many of you love anime, roleplaying, jpop, and so forth so we’ve developed a social network that is just for you. If you don’t like how you have to use your real name on other social networks, or how you can’t date the same gender or have a harem, and so on… You’ll really like it here. Your profile is your own and most importantly your data is yours.
Online ChatTalk with others in real-time by joining our Online chat! The features developed for our chat is once again, tailored for our community. We utilize friend lists, statuses, channels, and many features such as the 8ball oracle, dice, and more.
J-World Market / Achievements / J-PointsIf you think your time here can’t get any more fun, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find out that for almost every action you complete on Jappleng such as posting a new post in J-Spot, or replying in the forums, you will receive J-Points for it. We also tally the things you do so we can give out special achievements like you see in video-games. Soon you’ll be able to login every day and collect daily login bonuses! What can you do with these? With J-Points you can redeem them in the J-World Market, which is like exchanging tokens earned at an arcade for fun prizes except you don’t pay for your J-Points, you earn them! These items can range from visual tweaks like themes, badges, emblems and so forth to being able to unlock features like changing your avatar, new modules on your j-spot, signatures and so forth.
Club JapplengWhile Club Jappleng is not yet ready for public use (private beta only), it’s a place where anyone can create a club of their own interest and allow people to join it. You can create a club for your school, or you could create a fan club about your favorite anime. Each club has many interesting features such as its own image boards, forums, themes, and so forth. It’s going to be really expansive!
J-BlogsManage your own blogs with J-Blogs! This can be used for whatever you want it to be, so if you want to keep track of your own educational progress… There you go! If you want to write about a particular jpop group, by all means. It’s really up to you!
