Hello everyone and welcome to Jappleng University! We're almost done with development of the site so here are a few things you need to know about us.1. We're Upgrading the site one last timeSome features may work, some might not. There might even be a section missing, 404 images and so forth... This is expected and we'll be returning to normal operations once the site is done with its final upgrade (for the release).2. Jappleng was and continues to update on a live basisWhenever something new is done to the site, it is uploaded to the site. These things don't happen when it involves security, those types of updates happen during scheduled maintenance or emergency maintenance. Other than that, we've bee updating the site one new section at a time. We started as a blog then a forum and look at it now! Quite big right?3. It can take a long time to explore every feature and section to JapplengAt first glance it may not seem like Jappleng is massive, but the more you explore, the bigger it gets. There's over a dozen sections, countless amounts of forums, a social network, news, a full-featured education suite, and the list goes on. There are lots of minor features as well as major ones to play with. In the coming months, but we're just getting started!4. Just about everything can be freeWhether you want to learn Japanese or participate in our social network, there's so many things to keep you occupied as we've just stated but the best part of it all is that you can do all of it (mostly) for free. The only things that aren't free are tutoring services, and paid-for classes that teachers charge for. But, you don't have to pay for those classes, you can still learn a pretty hefty amount of Japanese using JPLearn for free!5. We don't sell your private infoI guess not many care about this anymore but I'm pretty strict with this. When I envisioned Jappleng I imagined it a place of freedom and a great place to hang out without worrying about if your e-mail or behavior will be sold to third party companies. Fear not! Jappleng isn't that way so you can ditch your other social networking websites for ours, sounds good right?6. Jappleng started out as a non-profit ideaBut unfortunately it's rather difficult to run a non-profit in today's economy especially one with such special interest as Jappleng. Not to mention the red tape for running a non-profit like this in the united states is overwhelming, the taxes are really high and so forth... So to protect myself and to keep Jappleng running peacefully I decided to just incorporate it. I don't really want to go the greedy corporate route, I just want to be personally protected and want everyone to enjoy this great gift!7. Registering early means more benefits for laterBy the time that Jappleng is released in a few days, a few new items will be given to everyone who's already been subscribed. You can help support Jappleng by purchasing tokens which can be redeemed for lots of J-Points if you wish to support Jappleng and benefit from it. What do these items do? Check out #8!8. The J-World Market is a pretty fun placeIt's a place where you can unlock new sections, features, customization, and other fun things by using the J-Points you collect around the site. You can collect J-Points by completing ACHIEVEMENTS or by posting new content. These unlockables allow you to do more, flaunt, and customize many different things about Jappleng. Another neat thing is the public market where you can choose to sell the items you collect like limited edition items and sell them at a later time at a higher price. It's loads of fun!9. You can become a teacher or a tutorYou can either use Jappleng's Learning Management System for your school and not make money from it or you could become a tutor for others around Jappleng or through private means. Only thing, right now it's in private beta so you'll have to contact me for more info about this later.10. Jappleng is unique in its endeavorsThere's nothing quite like Jappleng, really there isn't! Jappleng is unique in so many ways and was developed from ground-up (numerous times for perfection). I started Jappleng with my heart in the right place 11 years ago, before I even knew how to do any kind of programming. It took about a decade of practice but my goal was to give back to the community because I know how frustrating it is to want answers for this or that but only to get nowhere. Eventually I had enough professional skills to make Jappleng happen so that's what I set out to do this past year and a half.11. Special Goals for a Loving CommunityMy goals for Jappleng is basically to make it a one-stop-hub for anyone interested in Japanese related stuff. Whether you want to learn about Japan, want to learn the language or want to make new friends it's all up to you but more importantly I wanted to make it free because have you seen how much these other people charge for basic Japanese lessons that amount to nothing? I doubt anyone is willing to shell $200 for a few basic lessons so why not learn it here for free? No ads, just pure fun But if you manage to have spare coins, please buy stuff from the Market, it would help fund the server fees at the very least.12. Jappleng is Role-Play friendly!Want your gender to be whatever? What about your name? How about your age? Really, it doesn't matter here so long as you practice safe role-playing etiquette!13. A few days until it's releasedThere's a few more touch-ups to do, but Jappleng will be complete in just a few days from the date this was posted. No more than 7 days for sure! (Promise!)14. No Club Jappleng or J-Blogs yet but...There won't be Club Jappleng or J-Blogs right away but those are the next things on the list to develop. This also means that the J-World portal, a place where you can see community activities on a live-basis won't be ready any time soon because both J-Blogs and Club Jappleng will need to be complete first. Expect them to be ready by late August / early September.15. You'll be able to make clubs about anything!Club Jappleng isn't just a place to meet new people, it's a place where anyone can make their own clubs and create special interest pages. These clubs should be related to Japan. For instance you can create a fan-club for a particular anime or art-style. It really is up to you but remember that creating clubs requires some level of dedication because as you and others participate in these clubs, the higher level your club can be and new features can be unlocked.16. Anyone can publish news and earn lots of points from itJappleng Public News (JPN) is entirely driven by content created by our members. Each news item can be voted on so if you create a really good article, you're likely to get a lot of points. Points are awarded anytime someone comments (to both the participant and creator) as well as any time someone up-votes the news item. On top of all of that, soon there will be the ability to earn bonus points based off of your performance.And we're just getting started! So what do you think? Is Jappleng exciting enough for ya?
