An event that has reshaped the way modern civilization thinks happened exactly 3-years ago. Three years ago in Japan, a tsunami and various earthquakes took over 15,884 lives, destroyed cities, and placed the whole world into danger from nuclear contamination. A lot has happened from this event and we're left to wonder how many families are still struggling?Fukushima, the city which is now a barren wasteland of toxic nuclear air had to be abandoned by over 270,000 residents and even to this day, about 100,000 are still residing within temporary housing and nearly 1,650 have died after the accident. The use of nuclear power plants have been surrounded by controversy and many believe it's time to end the nuclear program while others embrace it while pointing fingers at the lack-luster efforts for prevention by both the Japanese government and TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company). Many nuclear power plants around the world have shut down as a result, and Japan had vowed to close all Nuclear power plants but has recently reversed that decision by restarting "safe" nuclear power plants costing tens of billions in renovations.Nuclear waste continues to be pumped into the ocean by about 300 Tons a day and many people have actively avoided eating Pacific fish as a precaution to eating contaminated fish. Crops however have been deemed safe to eat according to various research teams and the government but many are still skeptical and are concerned.Three-years later and Japan has barely even scratched the surface in improving the situation. The question on whether or not we are all negatively affected by this event is still being debated, however one thing is for sure, nuclear power plants must be heavily regulated particularly in natural disaster-prone areas like Japan or we may just face another Fukushima Daiichi disaster.
