There is the continual problem of public groping in Japan, whether it's a butt grope or anywhere else, it happens so often that there are signs warning people to be alert. This can happen anywhere in malls, trains, stairways, wherever but there's just something that makes people grope. Well, there is a new "toy" available to help deter chikan (perverts) and it's a sticker-stamp that you can place on your cell phone. How does a sticker-stamp work on deterring chikan? When the chikan gropes you slam your phone against their hand, and it will stamp them with an X. The more x's that pervert gets, the more people should avoid them. Groping is not the only thing that perverts do, they will also take upskirt pictures and footage and whether you're in a mixed train or in a female-only train, it's always a possibility.
But why is this even a problem in the first place? Well, I have two theories behind this. Theory #1: Japanese people are very honorable, this means that if they get groped or if they know someone is taking a video of their panties, they won't say a thing because it would bring shame and disgrace to them if others knew. Because of this truth
(does not apply to all women), perverts that feel the urge to either grope out of personal satisfaction or make money off of the gray market know they can likely get away with doing what they will do since it's unlikely for anyone to scream.Theory #2: It's possible that the over-the-top censorship of porn is so bad, that the perverts need an outlet to do their dirty deeds. Perhaps censorship of porn is what causes a lot of perverts to act out in this world? Perhaps the fact that certain things are censored that other things that should be fairly calm to see become a fetish. For example: Since it's illegal to show a woman's whoo-hoo even on the internet, then panties may have become the replacement fetish. Of course, those are my opinions about this, and the situation may be significantly more complex but it would seem that no politician wants to touch the porn topic with a ten foot poll unless it involves
"protecting the children", ironically doing nothing about young idol AV.However, will this anti-chikan sticker-stamp really work? How does it prevent false-positives? Is it legally admissible in court? The sticker does not serve as proof of anything, but can humiliate people whether they are guilty or not thus the idea that it may work as a deterrent. These stamps cannot act as legal proof that they committed any crime and false-positives are always a factor. Rather, I have heard on numerous occasions that women purposely filed charges on innocent men for their money. If a woman doesn't like a certain person, they can simply stamp their hand or face. But if they do stamp the "culprit's" hands, how are they any less guilty if they just put them back in their pocket? As a final thought about this, groping can happen at any time, probably aimed when the woman least expects it, so they would have to be ninjas to catch the culprit's skin.
There are most certainly issues with upskirt voyeurism and public groping in Japan. However a stamp system seems rather, unethical and doesn't solve any root issues. I hope to see the end of the groping but personally I don't see how this will work in the long-run. Many have suggested to completely segregate men and women to their own designated trains but groping and upskirt doesn't only happen in mixed trains but in women's only locations as well. It also poses issues where straight couples would not be able to sit with each other. I'd like to believe even one grope prevented is a victory but perhaps you guys and gals may have opinions and better suggestions about it? Let us know in the comments below!
