News Report: Perspective of Jappleng from a first generation member
Notice: This is an archived news article published by a member of the site and not our staff. The layout and functionality of this page will likely be broken. Sorry for the inconvenience!
My name is Julie (Julies) and I am Jappleng member number 13 (what a lucky number!). I have been on Jappleng since August 3rd, 2006, 3:06am according to my profile. Well today we are March 23rd, midnight where I live. I can say that I have seen Jappleng since near its inception. But, I didn't see the original Jappleng Blog, but I have seen Jappleng News and a fair share of splash pages stating that it would be "coming soon".But soon to some felt like an eternity and even today Jappleng isn't quite complete as it was once raved to be. I can't exactly learn Japanese just yet, but the education page is there, or at least taunting me. I remember learning Japanese from Jappleng and it helped me a lot when the lessons were available, but that was up until a year or two ago when Jappleng was changing into Jappleng University. It seems ironic maybe? But in a vast search of Google queries, no website has ever attempted what I've been seeing with Jappleng. I'm still impressed at what this site is and how Mark never seemed to have backed down on his promises. I really love coming here, I am just impatient and want to see others here enjoying the site as much as I am like back in the old days. I remember back when you couldn't go a minute without there being a new thread on the site, Jappleng was at a time very popular and I believe it will be that way again. As a first generation member's perspective, I can say that Jappleng evolved a lot over the years, and it's a shame that it couldn't evolve gradually without the site going down for personal reasons but Mark has overcome a lot of obstacles from his blogs and news announcements and I commend him for not giving up. I am thankful that Jappleng exists and I hope that soon it will blossom into what he had originally imagined. I remember playing this flash quiz application to help improve my kanji and kana recognition, or playing in the arcades because Jappleng used to have arcade games where you could win yin-yen points, chatting in the chat room (and tinychat sessions!). I also remember how so many people would get excited about the site and would write on their hands that they "Love Jappleng!". But that time has passed and a new generation of members will come by and make the site more popular than before. Maybe former members will come by once in a while like what I do?Thank you Mark for not giving up and always putting your members in mind when you work on the website. You have shown great dedication and excellent devotion to the Japanese community. You said that in 2-weeks or so the site will be completely ready? I'll be here on the first day that it is. I LOVE JAPPLENG!
