It\'s been over a decade since the last game release in Japan for the SEGA Dreamcast and almost two decades since its initial release. The SEGA Dreamcast didn\'t have an exciting release, I remember it very clearly as the game system that \"nobody cared about\" for a good while. It wasn\'t until 2 years after its initial release that my dad had bought be the Dreamcast as a random gift and when I unpacked it all it felt like it was something from the future.
Genuinely the Dreamcast was ahead of its time with its OS Dashboard, motion sensor controllers, internet connectivity for online play, it supported 60hz, a first of its kind to do so, memory cards / game controllers with a display on it (Take that Nintendo Wii U / Switch!) and a lot more. Despite its lackluster launch and failed to meet demands, it was competitive against the PS2 visually and put up a great fight until it ultimately got its plug pulled and SEGA stopped participating in the over-saturated console market.
Today, SEGA releases a new app for mobile devices which allows users to play SEGA classic games from all their consoles. While not all games are support as of yet, there are many games to be enjoyed. Games can be downloaded for free with ads or paid for $2 without ads. This is big, really big!
SEGA may no longer be working on consoles but they have a rich history of games to enjoy. Even more, they continue to release games up until today and they are still a big player in the Arcade industry.
What Platform is Sega Forever supporting? What Games are Available?- Altered Beast
- Comix Zone
- Kid Chameleon
- Phantasy Star II
- Sonic the Hedgehog
Not a bad launch lineup. Now, if you want to make your voice heard, you can tweet to them @SEGAForever. They are supposedly are listening to see what the fans want to see for upcoming games. This could be a revolution on how classics are played.
