Perhaps a year ago when we talked about Gatebox we thought it was a novel idea, even a great way to have a digital pet. Gatebox proved us that their innovation knows no bounds and with the power of their creativity, likely inspired by inner-NEET culture, they managed to develop a virtual waifu with a hologram display. Otaku and NEETs alike, I present you the one and only Gatebox. The J-Pop like waifu can connect to a smart home just like Alexa and is in a sense a competitor and likely already a winner to many already. She is a companion, she is a house waifu, and she can take part of activities with you including texting and watching TV. While her AI may not be as complex as a Chobits, she is certainly the first of what may be many “digital gatebox” in the future. It is possible to connect her to a PC and Smartphone via Bluetooth, she supports Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi connected appliances, she can also connect to not-so-smart appliances that do not support Wi-Fi, she has a HDMI port, camera, microphone and other sensors. She’s obviously not real like a human and despite the numerous amount of death threats that exists around anime communities when one were to suggest their waifu isn’t real, she is already up for pre-order for about 298,000¥ / $2,530USD(~ish).Initially Gatebox will come in Hikari Waifu variety but it’s likely that there will be many others available in the future including her sister Akari and perhaps custom mods like perhaps Rem or Emilia? Oh, yes! Very likely. You can find out more information about her over at http://gatebox.ai/hikari/en/ but before you leave, don’t forget to bookmark our site!
