Over my life I’ve seen well over 150 different anime and that’s saying a lot considering many of them were over 100 episodes long. Despite this there is an anime that I haven’t seen yet and I never really thought twice about it, but now that I’m binge-watching the series, I feel as if it should have been done before. The anime that I’m talking about is of course Naruto.Yes, that annoying little blonde kid that may make you want to slap him across the head and tell him to stop running around so much and focus is the star-player in one of the most watched anime of all time. Naruto is a young Ninja who has a Nine-Tail fox living inside of him. This nine-tail fox is a legendary youkai with incredible power, so much so that it required sacrifices and many lives were taken in the fight against it, and even then, the only thing that they could do was to seal it inside a baby’s body (Naruto). This intense amount of energy or chakra as they call it, is supplementary to Naruto’s natural ninja capabilities and while he isn’t as talented as many others, he always tries his best to overcome his shortcomings so that one day he could become the village leader, which is like becoming president but you have to be incredibly strong for the title.Naruto has to face many challenges from training to missions to personal and other types of battles. It’s an action-packed series that has a pretty good amount of depth in the story and characters but because of which you’ll find yourself skipping through a lot of the fillers.Naruto is typically accompanied by others and in the beginning he’s teamed up with Sakura and Sasuke which are both talented in their own area. There’s always something happening outside the fillers and constant flashbacks. Unfortunately flashbacks can occur in the middle of training or a fight which make some fights last more than an episode for that reason alone. The battle sequences are pretty good; they show creativity in the abilities between characters, unlike Dragon Ball where the battles are pretty much all uniform and about who has the most energy level. When comparing which one is better, and as many times as I’ve seen Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, Naruto is far better in my opinion because it’s always something new and the battles don’t take a week for a character to power up.I couldn’t find a trailer without spoilers so here’s a glimpse of the showThe Good:
- Music is all good, every intro, every outro, they’re fantastic!
- Plenty of story and backstory
- Fight scenes are not always predictable
- Unique talents all around, there’s always something new to be seen
- Pacing of the show feels right
- Makes you wish you knew Ninjutsu
- Lots of episodes to keep you busyThe Bad:
- Too many fillers
- Too many flashbacks
- After episode 135, you can skip to shippuden since it’s all fillers
- If you don’t have much time for anime, this anime may not be for youOverall, I’d highly recommend watching Naruto because it’s one of those shonen that should be seen at least once. Skip the fillers whenever you can, stop watching at episode 135 and jump straight into shippuden (it’s another anime like Dragon Ball Z is to Dragon Ball), and most of all… Just enjoy it!Where can you watch Naruto? Well, legally you can watch it on Hulu but knowing our audience… I’m sure you know where else to look but we recommend hulu because it’s high quality and has good subs and dub if you’re into dubs. Plus, it’s legal.Episodes for the First Series (Naruto): 220Episodes for Naruto Shippuden: 471 (on-going)Movies currently released: 10OVA available: 14?Manga: 72 volumes, 700 chapters (not joking)What are you waiting for? Go get some ramen and start watching! It's worth your time for sure.
