We are now in the present, or at least the present of April 2017. It's an exciting time because Jappleng is nearly complete 100%! It was a rough ride but we are finally here. Over 12 years since I came up with the idea, here we are with a product that would make any fan of Jappleng proud at the time and perhaps anyone interested in the Japanese culture excited to see in the present.

Hello Cancer!
I ended up getting Skin cancer right before moving with my wife overseas. I had it removed and I don't think I have it anymore anywhere but it was interesting because while I was at the hospital waiting for my turn, I was thinking about having cold feet thinking "nah, it's nothing".  But my wife said "no, you should get it checked out" so I did. Being that it wasn't a poisonous snake and in fact it is known to eat poisonous snakes (cannibalism?) I decided to rescue it, sort of.

The snake was annoyingly tangled in a brand new net, so there were only two ways to get it out. I could either decapitate it into small pieces and pull it through the holes or I could rescue it. There was also the option of leaving it for nature to take care of it of course. I chose to rescue it because well, I felt bad for...

Like a Phoenix, we Rise from the Ashes; Hello Jappleng University!
At that point I had spent a few thousand hours on Jappleng, but it needed a lot of work, in fact with the ideas I had over the years, I decided around 2011 to figure out the best parts of these ideas into a colossal project dubbed Jappleng University. I had decided to go through this as an experimental project, to teach myself a lot of skills that I didn't have, to mentor myself and to really push forward making the best possible thing I could make, I called it Project: Jappleng University.
