The News category has been added for people to have an open
discussion in a world filled with fake news and conflicting
agendas. With that said, there are a few rules to remember when
engaging in this forum.
1. Take everything with a grain of
salt
In other words, do not take anything at face value. There are three
sides to truth and you will never know the third side, the side
which actually happened.
2. Do not engage in cancel culture /
censorship
Jappleng as a service does not permit cancel culture. We are not
pro-any political side either but we do support your right to voice
your thoughts and opinions and cancel culture / censorship does not
promote individual opinions. I may like popcorn but you may not, it
is an opinion and like Rule #1, you will never know the truth even
if it's convincing when discussing news topics. Do not create mobs,
do not cancel people, do not bully people into censorship. This is
a rule that applies to the whole of Jappleng but it needs to be
said again for this specific forum. Inclusivity and diversity goes
against cancel culture and censorship.
3. Do not copy and paste News
Articles without permission
Did you know that copying and pasting text from another website is
considered copyright infringement and you are liable for it? That's
right, don't do it! Some news services allow for free copy and
pasting, sometimes they allow a paragraph. Do not do more than what
is allowed by copyright law. The general rule of thumb is; you may
quote a sentence or paragraph and link back to the original source
but legally they can ask for a DMCA takedown request. Please note
that if we receive a takedown notice we will have to delete the
quote.
4. Do not use any Jappleng services
to promote harm
Why do I need to state this? Because there are various social
network websites that promote this type of behavior. Twitter,
Facebook, Reddit, etc... This is not that kind of community, please
do not promote others to engage in harming people or things.
Threats are never allowed.
Code of
Conduct
Please use sources whenever possible and please be respectful
of other people. News sites have all seemed to have removed the
ability to comment and point out how fake they are. You are free to
call out whatever news source that is providing fake information if
you like but please be as civil as you can be.
Threads can be locked at any time if we have to lock it. An
example of this if people don't tone it down after threads escalate
or if the author asked us to close it for them. In general, we will
not lock threads unless it's really needed. Spam threads will
always be deleted or shadowblocked.
I hope that the News Forum can be engaging in an
intellectual kind of way but I know that sometimes threads may
end up escalating into the toilet. Please be respectful of those
posting and the moderators (GM) who will try to de-escalate
threads.
