For those of you playing Final Fantasy 14 (FFXIV / FF14) patch
5.2 released last week and it was an impressive patch update. It
featured a fairly long main story quest (MSQ), new dungeon and
raids, ocean fishing, a new beast tribe, a new gold saucer
mini-game (it was a jumping puzzle), tons of new items such as
craftable items, a few new sets of armor / weapons and when I say a
few new sets I mean for all jobs and classes! There was also prep
work made for patch 5.25 which is essentially the continuation and
completion of patch 5.2; basically it will be fixing many bugs, the
ishgard restoration will continue into its next and final phase,
there will be a crafter/gatherer leaderboards, diadem is going to
return in a different way and more!
I'm pretty happy to see that FF14 is finally starting to see a
lot of updates in a patch or two instead of this level of content
being added every 6 months. You can really tell that the game is
growing in popularity and their funding has been increased. Later
this year we will likely get an announcement and trailer for the
next expansion (6.0) which is most certainly going to release next
year if we are to look over at past schedules.
While I don't particulary find the game too enjoyable, it is a
good game to play and pass the time. 5.2 proves that Square Enix is
Queen for MMORPGs. WoW is dead, long live the Queen!
