Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the NEW community
forums named Shakai (society)! This is the very first post
in the new community forums, and as such I’d like to welcome all of
you to this fantastic new section of the site. While it the new
forums may look similar to the old forums, it is entirely different
in every possible way! The
Aesthetics Every part of the forum has been visually
updated to befit a completed project. Many things that used to be
images are now programmed into the code, making the site load much
faster. Additionally, the forums are visually more appeasing with a
cleaner, more modern look to fit 2015! Replies are much easier to
do, in fact the reply box is on the same page, following you around
the site when you click “reply” it is also a WYSIWYG editor like in
the comments. You should all try it! New
“Like” System Love a post? Why not like it? Simply
click on the Like button, and you’re done! Your avatar will show up
along with others that liked that particular post. Each like is
stored in our database as a reputable karmic score. Another bonus
will be new achievements for likes (soon), and each like gives the
receiver J-Points! The code and
performance We’ve ditched the old phpBB forums in lieu
of our own hand-built message board system. We had no use for
something that was intended for a “general purpose”, loaded with an
unnecessary amount of mods which made Jappleng a much heavier site
than it should be. We’ve succeeded at making the new community
forums significantly faster by almost 3000%! It’s not only
performance on our end that is much better, but on your end,
there’s much less to load per page! New User
Achievements and J-World Market Items We’ve added 4 new
achievements, Topic Starter I, II, III, and IV to the list. For
example, if you submit your first forum thread, you’ll receive the
Topic Starter I achievement (you’ll see it appear live). We’ve also
released “Signature Unlock” item to the J-World shop so that users
may use signatures in their forum posts (editable in the Settings
page). If you would like to change your avatar, you’ll need to use
your J-Points for the “Avatar Changer”. Get them while they’re
hot!* * You may get these items but the settings page is not yet
ready. This is the next item on our to-do list!
Club Jappleng / J-Spot! Ready! The
new community forums aren’t limited to its own template engine like
phpBB was. Our forums are unique to our own template engine which
means that we don’t have to update two templates when updating one
or the other. Additionally, it’s much easier to deliver
notifications and other things to everyone. These forums have been
retrofitted with Club Jappleng and J-Spot! code, meaning when
students create their own clubs, they’ll be able to create their
own custom forums! Students will also be able to post their forum
posts on their JSpot (like a facebook wall)! We’re also
experimenting with the idea of tracking “lover’s posts” in
individual posts so if you have a love partner on Jappleng, an icon
would appear in each thread that your partner posted (if the
permissions are set). Many more features on
their way While the new community forums are exciting,
and pave the path for a much stronger foundation for Jappleng,
there are many features that are missing, and many that are riddled
with bugs or simply don’t exist. Presently posts cannot be edited,
reporting a post doesn’t go anywhere, and tracking new posts might
be buggy… Yet these are all things coming next week. The settings
page is the next biggest priority, and most importantly allowing
signature and avatar changes are an absolute must! But, these
things will have to wait for another day since the night is ending.
I hope you are all excited about these new forums! These forums are
poppin’ fresh so be a first poster in every category ^___^ As for
me? It’s time to get some good rest. This was a very productive,
yet tiring week with 16hr+ work days so I’m going to take the rest
of the week off for some R&R and working on yard stuff. Enjoy~
