Yokai Trainers is presently under EARLY ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT as of August 7, 2022. This project began in 2019 conceptually and was being originally developed as a Mobile Game codenamed “Yokai Masters”. However, due to the complexities that involved in making the game and the time constraints given, it was placed on hiatus and a smaller version of the game was designed to be played on the web. This game is tentatively named Yokai Trainers.
The game is intended to help boost the interest for Jappleng and also act as another Hobby “pet” (pun intended) project. It is designed to be a free-to-play game that is either actively or passively played.
There are two types of releases that will be made available. The first being a modular release, where people may test different features stand-alone without actually being part of the game. For instance, you could play the battle system on its own without anything else. The other type of release is the Development Build, which is tied to your account. Data is shared throughout the world in an ever growing universe. This is like the final version of the game but it will be broken, full of bugs and incomplete until it eventually reaches PRODUCTION READY releases. Development releases are prone to occasional data wipes although a warning will be given ahead of time when these wipes will be known unless there is something very problematic.
These releases are stable and will arrive when the game reaches “version 1.0”. This is the state where we end our beta test and release the game in full. No data wipes will occur under this build. There are no release date planned as of this moment.
Presently there is no way to play the development builds. Instructions on how to gain access will be made available soon.
Please use the Yokai Trainers wiki menu to learn more about different parts of the game.
Click on the “Join club” button at the top of the page to become part of the club. You will gain access to the development builds of the game if you are a part of the club (when available). We have club forums available, you may post there to discuss the game's development even further there.
