combination of the above). Idols are often described as “diamonds
in the rough” meaning they are not necessarily chosen in auditions
for their talent/being better than their peers but for their
potential. The very concept of the idol is to watch these normal
girl turn into professional performers. The concept has existed
since the late 60s and has evolved a lot since.
