Series Plot
Gosick (ゴシック) was first released as a Japanese light novel series in 2003, and was written by Kazuki Sakuraba and published by Fujimi Shobo. This novel was later adapted into a Manga in 2008, and then an Anime in 2011.
Gosick is set in a fictional European country in 1924 and begins when a Japanese exchange student meets a mysteriously bright girl whom spends all of her time in the school’s library. Her brother is a detective and relies heavily on her brilliant mind to help solve difficult mysteries and with the help of the lead character, they venture forth to solve these mysteries one by one.
The lead male character, Kazuya Kujo(久城 一弥), is the third son of a Japanese Imperial soldier, and the lead female character, Victorique de Blois(ヴィクトリカ・ド・ブロワ) is the daughter of what she claims a dangerous person. Victorique is fairly short (4ft 7”) and dresses in Victorian-era clothes. Each episode is centered on solving a new mystery.
Editor’s Opinion: If you like anime like Detective Conan, you will likely enjoy this series. Though, in my opinion it’s not as good as Detective Conan, it is clever and well written.
